15 years ago we lost Mike Starr, founding member of Alice In Chains

Remembering the most badass bassist, most loved brother, son and friend, Michael Christopher Starr! Mike was a founding member of Alice In Chains.

Mike was such a powerhouse on the bass, unlike anything I’ve ever witnessed. He was known as the “Minister of Heavy” because of his monstrous output and his original playing style. Anyone who witnessed him play should consider themselves lucky. He was uniquely talented and wore his bass ultra-low.

I remember the day I found out about Mike’s passing. I was at work when the news had announced his untimely death. My gut immediately felt sick. Like many of you, I had watched Celebrity Rehab every week to find out how Mike was doing. I had high hopes for him, I really did. Even when Sober House finished, I had no doubt Mike would beat the drugs. His cast-mate & friend Tom Sizemore passed away on March 3rd, 2023. Tom was actually the latest in a line of several others who hadn’t made it from that season.

Mike will never be forgotten as he’s left a mountainous legacy. It’s been 15 years since he left this realm, but I know in my heart his spirit isn’t too far away.

Every time you listen to Facelift, Dirt or any of their earlier songs, you know you’re listening to the very best incarnation of Alice In Chains – the original 4 OG’s. I also can’t help but to believe that Layne & Mike have found one another in that beautiful realm. A realm so vastly different from the one we live in. A beautiful place of peace, music and eternal love. Long Live MIKE ST🌟RR & his rhythmic style ~ April 4, 1966-Forever! Mike Starr Forever
